Romanian AI startup Veridion raises $20 million and plans to grow its team by 50%
Existing investors Underline Ventures, OTB Ventures, Gapminder Venture Partners, Day One Capital and LAUNCHub Ventures also participated in the round. The latest investment brings Veridion’s total funding to $27.5 million.
“This investment demonstrates that world-class AI companies can be built from Romania for customers around the world. Our technology is already helping many of the world’s leading financial institutions, insurers and market intelligence providers understand commercial change as it happens. As we continue to grow internationally, we're equally committed to growing our team in Romania and investing in exceptional talent across every part of the business,” said Stefan Gergely, Head of Growth at Veridion.
Founded in Bucharest in 2019 by Florin Tufan, Mihai Vînaga and Sorina Vlăsceanu, Veridion currently works with more than 100 organisations worldwide. Companies using its data represent over $1.7 trillion in combined market capitalisation.
A digital replica of the world’s 640 million businessesVeridion is building an AI-powered digital replica of the global business landscape. Its self-updating graph database continuously analyses billions of digital signals to identify changes across 640 million companies.
The information is collected from company websites, regulatory filings, public registries, online product catalogues, social media profiles and trusted news sources. Veridion then analyses this data using its proprietary machine learning models.
The company’s technology supports decision-making at some of the world’s largest financial institutions, insurers and business intelligence providers. According to Veridion, its platform can deliver market intelligence up to 52 times faster than traditional sources while covering over 30 times more businesses globally.
The investment comes at a time when organisations are increasingly seeking real-time information to navigate geopolitical crises, market volatility and rapidly changing commercial conditions.
Veridion plans to grow its team by around 50%Veridion currently employs more than 60 people across Europe and North America. Part of the new funding will support a significant expansion of its Romanian workforce over the next year.
The startup plans to increase its headcount by around 50%, recruiting across engineering, machine learning, data operations, sales, marketing and customer success. It is also looking for data analysts and forward-deployed engineers who will work directly with client teams to implement and adapt the company’s technology.
The recruitment process is expected to involve interviews with hundreds of candidates as Veridion seeks to attract some of Romania’s leading AI and technology specialists.
Florin Tufan, co-founder and CEO of Veridion, says the Series A round validates the company’s long-term vision and Romania’s ability to build globally competitive AI teams.
The round was led by an early investor in Deliveroo and Preply“This investment is a major milestone for Veridion and a strong endorsement of the vision we’ve been building since day one. Romania has exceptional engineering and AI talent. As we expand globally, we want to continue building one of the country’s strongest technology teams while creating products that solve problems for organisations across the world,” said Florin Tufan.
The Series A investment was led by Hoxton Ventures, a British venture capital firm whose portfolio includes companies such as Deliveroo, CuspAI and Preply, as well as Romanian startup DRUID.
Hoxton Ventures believes the technology developed by Veridion has the potential to become an important part of the infrastructure supporting international commerce.
“Veridion has built something genuinely different that has the potential to become critical infrastructure for global commerce, and we are delighted to support the next stage of its growth,” said Hussein Kanji, founder of Hoxton Ventures.
