The documentary "Romanian Startups: Roaring Tigers of Europe", made by the start-up.ro team, spans across 33 years of history, from the first entrepreneurs in the transitional years to the initial technology company transactions that brought Romania into the international spotlight.
Romanian Startups: Roaring Tigers of Europe - The Extended Series will present the people who built the Romanian ecosystem and who discussed with the VideoCorp and start-up.ro team for this documentary. In this series you will find the extensive interviews and find out the stories of those who built entrepreneurship in Romania.
SeedBlink started in 2019 as an equity crowdfunding platform, a restart from Human Finance, a digital accelerator initiated by two former bankers, Andrei Dudoiu and Ionuț Pătrăhău. They knew the inflexibility banks had towards startup founders and wanted to come up with a different approach to financing startups. Nowadays, SeedBlink offers a one-stop solution that combines deal setup, compliance, execution, and portfolio monitoring - all in one digital environment.
”Andrei insisted that technology is the thing. And he was working in the bank until then. He knew more than I knew about the whole environment”, Ionuț Pătrăhău mentioned during our discussion for the Romanian Startups: Roaring Tigers of Europe documentary.
”To get the proper financing and actually that was our discovery journey for the sector. It took us two years. We invested quite some money in that human finance digital digital accelerator”, Andrei Dudoiu stated.
Nowadays, SeedBlink is an equity management and tech-specialized venture investment platform that enables European startups in accessing funds, managing and trading equity alongside established institutional investors. SeedBlink empowers founders to raise funds and manage their equity, while enabling investors to diversify their portfolios. By integrating the capital stack - primary investments, secondaries, and equity management tools-,we connect individual investors, syndicates, and institutional partners with high-growth companies, amplifying the European private tech markets.
”Now we have good names like Sano Pass, Kinderpedia, Code of Talent, all kinds of names that came to us back then because they didn't have any other solution. And we worked with them and we made them succeed. And then we went to Europe and now we have a maximum of 30% of the companies coming from Romania and 70% from the whole Europe, the countries we are in and some countries around them”, Ionuț added during our interview.
”We are completing the VC approach. We are not competing anyhow”, Andrei added about what SeedBlink is bringing to the table for startup founders.
Andrei and Ionuț entered a new territory in 2018. Andrei brought 20 years of experience in banking. Ionut came also with banking experience and with his experience as an entrepreneur in the medical field. Along the way, Carmen Sebe and Radu Georgescu joined SeedBlink and are building together a platform that continues to modernize the access and trading of private equity for individuals, helping startup founders get funding for their businesses.
With Andrei and Ionuț, who at this point decided to transition from his role as Managing Partner to become a silent partner in SeedBlink, we’ve touched on the strategic decisions behind SeedBlink’s unique position in the market.
They reflected on their past experiences in banking, the motivations for entering the tech funding space, the early struggles and pivotal moments in building SeedBlink, and their vision for the future of startup financing.
Both of them highlighted the importance of collaboration, continuous learning, and adapting to market dynamics to foster innovation.

Key insights from Ionuț Pătrăhău and Andrei Dudoiu, cofounders of the equity management platform SeedBlink
- Personal motivation that shaped entrepreneurial journeys: The founders’ initial career paths were deeply influenced by family expectations, personal ambitions, and life events such as divorce, which catalyzed their shift away from conventional banking into entrepreneurship. This highlights how personal life and professional identity can profoundly shape business trajectories, especially in transitioning industries like fintech.
- Early market entry and adaptation are vital: SeedBlink’s founders recognized the nascent state of equity crowdfunding in Romania and Europe, starting early despite regulatory ambiguity. This early entry granted them the “first-mover advantage,” allowing them to build trust and awareness gradually, even as the market evolved. Their willingness to pivot—from equity crowdfunding to syndication and back—demonstrates adaptability necessary for survival in emerging markets.
- Team composition and humbleness drive success: Both Andrei and Ionuț openly acknowledge their limits, deliberately bringing in experts like Carmen and Radu to complement their skills. This humility and strategic delegation illustrate best practices in scaling startups, emphasizing that founders must build strong teams with diverse backgrounds to grow beyond initial phases. The analogy to neurosurgeons versus gods captures the importance of expertise and collaboration over ego.
- Reflection on regrets and learning: Ionuț and Andrei candidly discuss regrets, such as staying too long in banking or not pursuing alternative paths earlier. Yet they view mistakes as integral learning experiences. This perspective encourages entrepreneurs to embrace uncertainty and continuous experimentation as part of growth and success.
- Focus and specialization drive competitive advantage: By concentrating primarily on tech startups and providing tailored solutions, SeedBlink differentiates itself from more generalized crowdfunding platforms. This focus enables deeper expertise, better service quality, and stronger investor confidence, which are critical in highly competitive markets.
- The European startup ecosystem is evolving but faces regional disparities: Countries like Bulgaria and Greece have made more progress in VC funding and ecosystem maturity compared to Romania, while the Baltics exhibit pragmatic valuation and business-oriented founders. The founders view these differences as learning opportunities and underscore the need for increased alignment and funding across the region.
- Future outlook: supporting young entrepreneurs and ecosystem builders: While both Ionuț and Andrei do not foresee launching new startups themselves at this stage, they are committed to advising and enabling younger generations. This mentorship role is essential for sustaining ecosystem growth and passing on accumulated knowledge.
